Behind Gen Z’s rising music star, Sombr, are two parents who’ve had busy lives of their own. Now, Sombr’s dad, Andy Boose, and mom, Bennah Serfaty, don’t treat being “Sombr’s parents” as a day job. They each got their own thing going on for them.

Sure, they’re proud of being Sombr’s parents, but they were a lot of other things before that. For decades, they built careers in charity, events, and communications, and their story goes all the way back to the late ’90s.

Well… here’s a closer look at how they met, family background, and what they’ve been up to, of late.

How Did Sombr’s Parents Meet?

Their story started back in December 1999, inside the offices of amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research) in New York City… as colleagues, who loved charity, who wanted to make impacts.

Well… at the time, Andrew Boose was working as a Temp in the Special Events Department, not exactly expecting the job to last long since he was a temporary hire. Bennah Serfaty, a University of Wisconsin graduate, had just joined the company as the Publicity Director.

When she walked into the office as the new hire, Andy noticed her right away, he did admit to this in a 2003 interview with Observer. They began as colleagues and then, good friends, and things gradually grew from there.

Now, it’s worth noting that before meeting Andy, Bennah was briefly married to Danny Moses Shir. Well, she got married to Danny on April 8, 2000, in a wedding held at the Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson, Connecticut, officiated by Rabbi Michael Cahan.

That marriage didn’t last, so a few years later, her life took a new turn with Andy.

By March 2003, Andy had proposed. On July 19, 2003, they got married. The wedding took place in New York, and as of 2025, they’ve been married for 22 years and have known each other for 26 years.

Their Children

Andy Boose and Bennah Serfaty have two children:

  • Amelie Boose (first child & only daughter): Born in October 2003. Now 22 years old, she’s a fresh Film Studies graduate of Wesleyan University… she is on Instagram under the username @amelieboose.

What Do Sombr’s Parents Do Now?

Sombr’s father, Andy Boose is the founder of AAB Productions, a company behind some of the biggest fundraising and luxury events in the world. He worked his way up to become Director of Special Events, producing global galas in Cannes, New York, Hong Kong, Paris, and Milan.

During his years at amfAR, overall, he helped grow its Cannes gala from a small dinner of 100 people raising $100k thousand into a fundraiser that brought in as much as $35 million.

Today, through his company, AAB Productions, founded in 2004, he continued to work with top, popular groups like UNICEF, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Madonna’s Raising Malawi, and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

As for Sombr’s mom, Bennah Serfaty, she has stayed with amfAR for decades and now works as the Senior Director of Communications. Over the years, her career has put her at the center of events attended by big names, including one that had Janet Jackson in attendance.

She’s admired for balancing her professional life with her role at home and has always been an important supporter of both Andy and Sombr.

Family Background

The Boose-Serfaty family has a diverse ethnic background.

  • From Andy’s side: German, English, Swiss, Scots-Irish, Scottish, Dutch, French, Irish, and Swedish roots.
  • From Bennah’s side: Jewish ancestry, both Sephardi and Ashkenazi.

This makes Sombr part Jewish through his mother, while also tied to a wide range of European heritage through his father.

Grandparents and Great-Grandparents:

  • Paternal grandparents: Robert Andrew Boose and Jeanne Springer
  • Great-grandparents: Howard Russell Boose Jr., Peggy Specht, Alfred Springer, and Joan Ruth Beyer
  • Maternal grandparents: Marc Mordechai Serfaty and Sheila Rosenberg Wilson
  • Great-grandparents: Yedidiah Serfaty, Simha Tordjman, Louis Wilson (also known as Wilkoreiski), and Bertha Rosenberg

Family Life Today

Andy and Bennah have kept their marriage strong since 2003, while raising their two children and continuing their careers. Their son Sombr often credits them for encouraging his creative side, while Amelie is rising, too, having marked her directorial debut with the short film, “Swim, Chicken!”

Though the family doesn’t chase the spotlight as much as most ‘new-celebrity’ family members do, they’ve found themselves in it either way… thanks to Sombr’s rise.

Why did Sombr’s dad take an interest in AIDS?

Andy Boose explained that his passion for AIDS fundraising was personal, as his high school theatre teacher, Barry, who had been a mentor, died of AIDS just before he joined amfAR. Andy saw the job as a way to honor him.

What’s Andy Boose’s net worth?

Andy Boose’s net worth obtained from his long-standing role in luxury event production suggests a strong financial standing, and given he is the founder of AAB Productions and has worked with top, popular companies, including UNICEF, Elton John AIDS Foundation, and amfAR, his net worth is estimated to be on the high side.

And, during his time at amfAR, he expanded amfAR’s events, so much so that the Cannes gala grew from a small dinner of 100 people raising $100k thousand to bringing in as much as $35 million.
